Not Breathing 

“I awoke with needles in my brain. Thousands of them biting, blocking out everything. Then they disappeared for one dizzying moment and I got my bearings”. 

Tara was still sleeping when her brother Shawn began to attack her. When Tara awoke, she was being choked by Shawn her. From this I can understand that Shawn is causing Tara a great deal of pain. Also, Tara being uncertain about what is happening until she gains her bearings. Shawn is still choking Tara when their mother is crying and trying to get him to stop.  She says “stop! You’re killing her! Stop”! After hearing his mother’s voice Shawn stopped choking Tara. Shawn then grabbed a fistful of Tara’s hair. “She’s not going anywhere until she admits she’s a whore” says Shawn. Tara has recently become friends with a boy named Charles, he has also seen her trying on lipstick. Shawn did not like that she did those things. “I see how you prance around with Charles like a prostitute” says Shawn. This quote shows how Shawn is seeing his sister even though he is completely wrong about her. Shawn is very upset with Tara, also being him being her big brother. I can see that Shawn could be a little upset about the lipstick. In saying this it gives Shawn no right to put his hands on his sister and treat her like that. Shawn is not able to control or manipulate Tara, which also plays a big part in why Shawn is angry at Tara. I cannot figure out why someone would do this to their sister. He is harming her more than 

 he is protecting her. I feel as though Shawn is going through something mentally. I wish Shawn was able to control his emotions and be able to talk about things with his sister instead of harming her.
